Alun Thomas gets BBC Radio Cymru afternoon slot
Post Prynhawn will have a new regular presenter on most weekdays from February at BBC Radio Cymru.
Journalist Alun Thomas is to become the main presenter of Post Prynhawn on BBC Radio Cymru, hosting the programme from Tuesday to Friday between 5 and 6pm, with Nia Thomas continuing in the role on Mondays.
The appointment strengthens the station’s late afternoon news offer, with the programme continuing its focus on providing a clear summary of the day’s key stories from Wales and beyond at the end of the working day.
Alun brings wide experience across BBC news and current affairs output. His presenting credits include O’r Gorllewin from Aberystwyth, the annual review programme Newyddion y Flwyddyn, and more recently Dros Ginio on Thursday afternoons. He has also regularly stepped in to present Dros Frecwast, Post Prynhawn, Taro’r Post and Post Cyntaf.
Speaking about the new role, Alun said Post Prynhawn had been a cornerstone of BBC Radio Cymru for more than 45 years and described it as a privilege to take on the programme alongside Nia Thomas. He said the aim would be to ensure listeners were fully up to date with the stories that matter as they finish their day.
As part of the changes, presenter Gwenllian Grigg will take over Dros Ginio on Thursday afternoons, leading the programme between 1 and 2pm. She said she was looking forward to guiding lively discussions on the day’s stories, alongside in-depth conversations with experts and contributors from a range of backgrounds.
Post Prynhawn is produced in Bangor and is broadcast live Monday to Friday between 5 and 6pm, with Dros Ginio airing between 1 and 2pm. Both programmes are also available on BBC Sounds.
