Greg James sets 1,000km Radio 1 ride target challenge

Greg James will broadcast live while cycling 1,000km for Red Nose Day this year.

The BBC Radio 1 Breakfast presenter is taking on an eight day tandem ride from Weymouth to Edinburgh, finishing on Friday 20 March in time for Red Nose Day.

The challenge will launch on air between 7am and 10.30am, with updates carried across Radio 1, BBC Sounds and Morning Live throughout the week. One listener will be selected to join part of the journey after details are revealed on the Breakfast Show.

Greg will cycle through England and into Wales before heading north to Scotland, riding at least eight hours a day. Fellow Radio 1 presenters and guests will join him along the route as he raises funds for Comic Relief projects in the UK and around the world.

It marks his third major challenge for the charity, after completing five triathlons in five days in 2016 and Pedal to the Peaks in 2018.

Greg said: “Cycling 1,000km in eight days will be brutally hard and relentlessly demanding, but that’s exactly the point.”

He added: “I’m dedicating this challenge to anyone who feels like they’re carrying life’s load on their own.”

Money raised will support projects helping people access food, safe shelter and protection from harm.
