Window for Eid RSL applications

Ofcom have not yet decided if they will change the procedure for RSL (Restricted Service Licence) applications, so until they do, they have opened a 4 week window for applications to be submitted for Ramadan and Eid in 2007.

If you would like to run one, and you think you might have competition in the area, you must submit your application between Tuesday 12 September and Monday 9 October 2006. After the deadline, applications for the 2007 Ramadan period will only be accepted for locations for where Ofcom have received no applications before the deadline.

Nice and simple then.

Earlier this year, on 26 April, Ofcom published a consultation on ?Radio Restricted Services and 55 to 68MHz?, which included proposals on how Ofcom might change the current processes for the consideration and award of all restricted service licences (RSLs). The closing date for responses to this consultation was 5 July 2006. They are now assessing the responses received, and during the autumn will issue a statement on RSL procedures in future, and new Notes of Guidance for Applicants.

Let’s hope it’s easier and cheaper.
