Free Radio raises over £750k for charity

Listeners to Midlands radio station Free Radio have raised over £750,000 for local children’s charities.

Over the last two months, over 23,000 people have taken part in the four walk events in Birmingham, the Black Country, Warwickshire and Worcestershire.

Last week saw over 4000 people take part in the fourth and final sponsored walk event, the Free Radio Walk of Worcestershire, from Malvern to Worcester with over £108,000 raised on the day.

Chief Executive Phil Riley told RadioToday.co.uk: “When we decided to bring back the Walks, I don’t think I imagined that the concept of walking for local charities would grow so big, so quickly. This year alone we’ve raised over £750,000 from four walks, and over £1.5m in total since we started in 2010.

“The biggest thanks of course should go to the walkers who have done the miles and raised the money, and our sponsors, partners and charities, who have helped us make the walks happen.”
