Magic AM’s Trevor Thomas and Magic 1161’s Darren Lethem have both hosted their last local breakfast show today, making way for a networked show.
Glenn Pinder, who presents the breakfast show on Magic 828 in Leeds will have his show extended to the rest of Yorkshire from Monday.
It follows similar moves by owner Bauer Media in the North East and North West of England in recent weeks, and comes just one week after the company merged TFM in Teesside with Metro Radio in Newcastle.
Tracy Eastwood, Regional Managing Director, Yorkshire said; “The changes around Magic’s breakfast output ensures that we stay fiercely competitive right across the region, and this move will enable us to focus on one, bigger Magic AM Yorkshire breakfast show.
“Glenn Pinder will present regionally relevant local content for the whole of Yorkshire, including news and traffic and travel information; and our offering to local advertisers, whether they’re based in South, West or East Yorkshire or North Lincolnshire, remains unchanged.
“As a result of these changes, I am sorry to confirm that Darren Lethem, presenter at Magic 1161 based in Hull, and Trevor Thomas, presenter at Magic AM based in Sheffield, will be leaving the business.
“Darren has presented the breakfast show at Magic 1161 for several years and has done a fantastic job in engaging listeners and clients across Northern Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire. He has also been a terrific ambassador for the ‘Cash for Kids’ charity, helping to raise thousands of pounds for local disadvantaged children.
“Trevor has been with Magic AM since 2008, and has delivered consistent audience results during this time. He’s been a fantastic ambassador for the station, taking the show and the brand out into the South Yorkshire community at every opportunity. Trevor is also a staunch supporter of Cash For Kids, and will continue to remain on the Board of Trustees moving forward.
“We all extend our huge thanks and appreciation to both Darren and Trevor, and send them our very best wishes for the future.”
Bauer received Ofcom approval to network all Magic stations in the North 24/7 earlier this year.
As announced on air, Im leaving Magic 1161 next week. My last show will be on Fri 12th April. Thanks for the support over the past 16 years.
