BBC Jersey appoints new editor

Jon Gripton has been appointed as the new Managing Editor for BBC Jersey, after working at Sky for the last 10 years.

He will take over from Denzil Dudley, who retires in October after more than 30 years' service with the BBC and 12 years with BBC Jersey.

Jon recently produced and led a Sky news expedition with the British Army to conquer the west ridge of Mount Everest – making television history as they became the first to broadcast live from Everest advanced base camp.

Prior to joining Sky, Jon was breakfast presenter at BBC Wiltshire Sound as well as the station's deputy editor. He also worked as a reporter and producer for BBC regional television news in the South West, based in Bristol.

Jon has also worked in commercial radio as programme controller and news editor at Red Dragon FM and Touch AM in South Wales.

He said: "I am very excited to be joining such a dedicated and successful team, as well as looking forward to the challenges and opportunities that working with BBC Jersey will bring. I already regard what BBC Jersey produce as fantastic – it really is a jewel in BBC English Region's output.

"I am delighted to become part of that success, and look forward to helping them achieve even more."

Jane McCloskey, Head of Regional and Local Programming for the South West, said: "We are absolutely delighted to welcome Jon to the team. He has a wealth of experience in network television news and he is no stranger to regional broadcasting. I know he will be a real asset to BBC South West and will I'm sure build on Denzil's legacy in the Channel Islands."
