BBC Radio 2’s Live In Hyde Park is to be headlined by Lionel Richie, with other performers including Jools Holland, Sandie Shaw and Ruby Turner.
Chris Evans announced the plans for the ‘festival in a day, which takes place on 11 September, on his breakfast show this morning.
Chris said: “Radio 2’s Hyde Park shows are without a doubt one of the highlights of my year – a beautiful location, an astounding line-up of world class artists including superstar Lionel Richie, and thousands of the great British public coming together to enjoy themselves.”
Radio 2 will cover the event live with hosts including Johnnie Walker and Jo Whiley also chatting to artists backstage. Joolls Holland – whose regular Radio 2 series is back in the sumer – leads his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra at the concert with singers Ruby Turner and Sandie Shaw joining him on stage.
Lewis Carnie, Head of Programmes, said: “Music is at the heart of Radio 2’s output, and with an incredible line-up to be announced in coming weeks, there will be something for everyone at this year’s Hyde Park show. And with Lionel Richie headlining the whole event, its a great way to end the summer in style.”
Radio 2 Live In Hyde Park began in 2009 with an ABBA tribute headlined by Kylie Minogue, while last year a show called Elvis Forever featured the likes of Sir Tom Jones and Tony Christie.
