Bauer Media’s Inverness-based radio station Moray Firth Radio has welcomed back presenters and staff from over the years to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
A special programme aired earlier today (Thursday) looking back on three decades of the station which covers the Highlands, Moray and Aberdeenshire.
Thomas Prag, MFR’s first Managing Director who was at the helm for nearly 20 years said: “There were many who didn’t expect MFR to survive for 6 months let alone 30 years. Now look at it! We had a great time then and it sounds as if they still do. It was remarkable then and is still at the top of its game.”
MFR went on air on 23 February 1982 and one of the voices from the first week on air – Tich McGooey – still does the morning show, with the station saying he’s the longest-serving daytime presenter in UK radio.
Danny Gallagher, the current Managing Director at MFR, said: “Our community spirit and our closeness to our audience makes the radio station what it is today and it’s very rewarding for all us. I’d like to thank everyone who has been involved with MFR. We shouldn’t however underestimate much of success is due to our loyal listeners who have taken us to their hearts over the last thirty years.”
