Capital FM North-East makes a big Parmo

As part of Capital breakfast’s Here Comes The Summer, Bodg, Matt and JoJo are attempting to make the world’s biggest ever Parmo.

They’ve made their version of the locally known food at over an inch and a half bigger than the world record.

The threesome are currently touring the North East, broadcasting from a different location every morning from their beach shack and having already done live shows from Sunderland and Darlington, Wednesday brought them to Middlesbrough – home of the Parmo.

The previous record, although not verified by the Guinness Book Of World records, is believed to have stood at 6 foot. Once the chicken had been coated in breadcrumbs the radio team added the bechamel sauce, the cheese and used a blow torch to melt the top layer of cheddar and mozzarella before serving it up.

Final measurement showed the parmo at seven and half feet, a new world record? Pictures of the giant parmo – with a tape measure against it – will now be sent to the record adjudicators.

JoJo, from Norton, near Middlesbrough – who also appeared as a contestant on TV show Take Me Out – said: “If we were to do something in Middlesbrough then we had to do a parmo – and if you are going to do it you might as well do it properly.”
