talkSPORT & BFBS extend rights agreement

talkSPORT and the British Forces Broadcasting Service have today extended their re-broadcasting agreement.

It means live commentary on selected Barclays Premier League matches can be offered to troops serving abroad. BFBS will carry talkSPORT’s UK match commentaries throughout the 2012/13 season. In addition, troops and their families serving outside of the EU will be able to listen to commentary of all 380 Barclays Premier League matches online at talkSPORT.com.

BFBS has carried talkSPORT’s commentary since April 2011 and the extended arrangement will see that continue throughout the new season. The station broadcasts to troops serving in more than 20 countries worldwide including Afghanistan, Germany, Cyprus, Gibraltar, Canada and the Falkland Islands.

Moz Dee, talkSPORT Programme Director, said: “It has been a privilege to partner BFBS and bring live sport to servicemen and women oversees and this new agreement will ensure that continues throughout what is set to be a thrilling season. We’re entering one of the most exciting periods in our history with the launch of talkSPORT Live, which enables fans overseas to hear every match throughout the season.”

Nicky Ness, Controller of BFBS Radio said: “We are delighted to continue this partnership with talkSPORT to bring live football commentary to forces communities serving overseas. I know that this coverage of the 2012/13 football season will be popular with our audience and the new online content provided by talkSPORT Live will also keep them in touch with their favourite football teams at home. Choice is a key element of maintaining morale and that, in turn, underpins the welfare support so deserved by the men and women of our Armed Forces worldwide that the team at BFBS seek to enhance. The BFBS and talkSPORT partnership is a perfect fit.”
