O’Grady radio show to air despite illness

The BBC says Paul O’Grady’s pre-recorded Radio 2 show will be broadcast as planned this Sunday, despite the presenter spending three days in hospital this week.

It’s understood O’Grady has requested that the programme – recorded last weekend – goes out as normal. He was admitted to hospital on Monday following a reported angina attack but is expected to return home to rest tomorrow (Wednesday).

In a statement released through his agent, he said: “I am feeling much better – I would like to thank all the nursing staff for their kindness. Thanks also to everyone who has wished me well”

Heart’s Stephen Mulhern and fellow Radio 2 presenter Michael Ball have stepped in to cover on the live Paul O’Grady Show on ITV over the last couple of days.

Paul’s Radio 2 producer, Malcolm Prince, tweeted to confirm that the programme will go out as planned on Sunday.
