talkSPORT has launched a brand new specialist documentary series hosted by Sam Matterface called ‘Upfront with’.
Sam will talk to some of the top strikers of the game about their life and times doing what they love – scoring goals.
The number 9s also discuss what the shirt means to them and their best footballing partners.
The show will air every Tuesday at 7-8pm and be available to listen to as a podcast immediately after each show in the talkSPORT Game Day feed.
The first episode with Gary Lineker can be listened to on the listen again feature on the talkSPORT website.
Gary explains how a goal for England against Poland in the Mexico ’86 World Cup set the ball rolling for a series of events which would define his career, “It was an absolutely typical, attack a near-post run and how you score goal,” he recalled.
“It was also my favourite goal – not because it was spectacular in any way, shape or form – but because it changed my life. I had struggled with England a few games before that but Bobby Robson kept me in the team.
“I went on to score a hat-trick in that game and then got the Golden Boot at the tournament – which eventually saw me move to Barcelona off the back of that.”
Head of talkSPORT Lee Clayton said: “We have been investing in specialist programming and growing our documentary output over the past 12 months and have lots more projects being worked on with some of the biggest names from across sport.
“With a host of new programming and a brand new Breakfast Show, listeners have a range of content to enjoy through lockdown and beyond.”
