Ofcom has given community radio licences to Plymouth Community Radio in Devon, The Hub in Cornwall and An Radio in the Hebrides.
It brings the number of licences handed out in the sector to 254.
Plymouth Community Radio will serve the community of Plymouth, and “specifically aim to provide a voice to minority and disadvantaged communities, and a platform for the music and arts communities.”
The Hub will “provide a service to people who live and work in the central south Cornwall area” (including the Roseland Peninsula).
An Radio/An Rèidio will serve the whole community over a wide area in the Scottish Outer Hebrides (Berneray, North Uist, Baleshare, Grimsay, Benbecula, South Uist and Eriskay).
Licences are awarded for a five-year period.
Ofcom also says it considered three further applications but decided not to award licences to Radio Inverness (Inverness), Riviera FM (Torbay) and The Beach (Christchurch).
