Dee Ford, Group Managing Director, Bauer Radio UK has been presented with her CBE medal from the Prince of Wales in an investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace last week.
Dee was awarded the title for services to Radio, having been named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
Others receiving honours included Knighted former health minister, Sir Norman Lamb and former de facto deputy Sir David Lidington for their political and public services.
Having started her career in sales, Dee climbed through senior positions within a number of newspaper, magazine and radio groups. In 1998 Dee was promoted to Group MD Emap Radio, leading the acquisition of Melody Radio, (now Magic Radio) and doubling the size of the radio business in 2005 through the acquisition of Scottish Radio Holdings.
Paul Keenan, President of Audio, Bauer Media Group commented, “It is fantastic to see our UK radio leader recognised for her phenomenal contribution to the industry with this distinguished honour. From starting in sales in Radio City in 1987 to building one of the world’s best radio businesses, Dee is nothing short of a legend. A huge congratulations from me and everyone at Bauer.”

Radio City, through the 80s and 90s early naughties, a breeding ground for talented individuals, DJs, broadcasters, commentators, executives, producers. Sadly will be a thing of the past now due to Bauer and there eradication of local sport coverage, local programming, news and sport team
Couldn’t have put it better, Every local person/ shop you went to in the city used to have it on, an absolute sad shadow of it’s former self.
Shame too because there certainly a massive opportunity for listeners if they got the right music/ local content back
There are probably more jobs in the radio/audio industry than there have ever been, with digital stations & podcasts. News UK are launching a new speech station shortly, and are currently advertising for producers and editors.
There is an issue that most of the jobs are based in London & Manchester these days, but the jobs are there if you’re prepared to relocate..
