Classic FM Live returns to the Royal Albert Hall on Monday 20 October to mark 25 years of its flagship concert series.
The event will feature the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Chorus conducted by Mark Wigglesworth, with performances from classical stars and new talent.
The concert will open with Zadok the Priest, the first piece ever played on Classic FM when it launched in 1992. The event will include a dramatic finale with lights and fireworks, and will be recorded for later broadcast on Classic FM.
Sir John Rutter, celebrating his 80th birthday, will conduct one of his own compositions. Sir Bryn Terfel will make his Classic FM Live debut, and Debbie Wiseman will conduct her Viking-commissioned work The Traveller.
Tenor Pene Pati will perform a tribute to Luciano Pavarotti, born 90 years ago this year. Also appearing are violinist Esther Abrami, performing her own work, and Diana Newell, the 88-year-old winner of Channel 4’s The Piano.
Philip Noyce, Classic FM’s Managing Editor, said: “Classic FM Live has brought the very best classical music to the iconic stage of the Royal Albert Hall, giving our audiences a powerful and personal experience of the music they love.”
The event is supported by Viking, marking its 10th year as sponsor. Wendy Atkin-Smith from Viking UK said the partnership has also included initiatives like the Music Teacher of the Year Awards.
