BBC Local sets out election coverage across radio
BBC Local radio stations will carry live results and analysis once again as England votes in May’s local elections.
Coverage will come from counts across the country on Friday 8 May, with local teams reporting live as results are declared and explaining what they mean for communities.
Across its 39 local radio stations, BBC Local will focus on issues including housing, transport, SEND provision, social care and cost of living pressures, alongside guidance on how local government works and how to vote.
Political editors and reporters will lead the coverage, offering analysis on-air and across BBC News platforms, while a returning Your Voice strand will feature contributions from voters in the weeks leading up to polling day.
Local radio will also hear from audience panels in areas where all seats are contested, including Birmingham, Bradford, Coventry, Sunderland and Swindon, with residents questioning candidates and reflecting local concerns.
A dedicated day of programming on 28 April will examine pressures in social care, including staffing, waiting lists and the impact on the NHS, across radio, television and online output.
Robert Thompson said: “We will spotlight the local issues that we know matter to our audiences where they live and bring their voices to our coverage throughout.”
