Absolute Radio has signed Richard Bacon to present a special two-part series celebrating half a century of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
Pepper @ 50 is the latest in Absolute Radio’s collaboration with TBI Media and will see Richard discover the back-story of how the seminal Beatles album was created. He will work through the song list track-by-track, dissecting and analysing the album.
Absolute Radio Content Director Paul Sylvester said: “We’re committed to quality documentary making and are delighted to welcome Richard to the Absolute Radio family. It’s important that commercial radio supports the independent production sector and our collaboration with TBI Media continues to go from strength to strength”
Richard Bacon will be joined by an array of journalists, writers and musicologists including Giles Martin, son of Beatles producer Sir George Martin and Beatles insider Tony Bramwell, about whom Sir Paul McCartney once quipped ‘If you want to know anything about The Beatles ask Tony Bramwell, he remembers more than I do’. In addition, there will be inserts from contemporary artists who will have their say on why the album means so much to them.
Part 1 of Pepper @ 50 presented by Richard Bacon will air on Absolute Radio at 9pm on 31st May with part 2 broadcast the following evening at 9pm on Thursday 1st June.
The documentary will then be available to listen to on-demand on Absolute Radio’s website.
