BBC Radio Sheffield & 3CR swap studios

Two local radio stations are swapping studios tomorrow morning (Monday) to debate the North-South divide argument.

The BBC Radio Sheffield team will broadcast on Three Counties Radio in Luton whilst the 3CR crew will air their show in Sheffield.

Staff in BBC Sheffield came up with the idea to clear up some of the arguments and conduct a social experiment, which will include the two stations sharing a phone-in from 9-10am.

BBC Sheffield’s Toby Foster will present his show on 3CR at the same time Lorna Milton and Simon Lederman will be on Sheffield.

Sheffield’s editor Gary Keown toldAriel: “Toby does several jobs and runs comedy clubs. He books acts and the feedback he was getting was how different it is up here and how it feels more depressing.

“That led to a conversation about whether that assumption was fair and we wanted to dedicate a show to the issues. We approached 3CR and they were really up for it. The editor Mark was really excited about the idea of swapping locations.”

Toby says they deliberately chose the Beds, Herts and Bucks station because it’s based in an urban area but has very leafy suburbs. He says it is interesting to see how things change across their patch.

“It’s just going to be fun and it’s interesting to do these things with the stories we do on local radio – we tell the news but we don’t always remember it can be fun. There’s not that much fun around these days.”

The show airs from 6am till 10am on BBC Radio Sheffield and BBC Three Counties Radio.
