Gaydio original team member Simon Peel passes away aged 54

Tributes have been paid to one of Gaydio’s original team members, Simon Peel, who has died at the age of 54.

Simon was one of the station’s longest serving members, joining for the original pilot broadcast in 2006.

Most recently was presenting an evening show focused on the Manchester audience with his last show just before Christmas. He also helped to keep the station on-air with his technical knowledge.

Kriss Herbert-Noble, Gaydio Network Content Director said: “Simon has been a part of Gaydio from Day one, from the four week pop up broadcasts we did, to launching full time, Simon has been instrumental in making the nerdy things work for Gaydio.

“King of a quick fix, always on call, reliable and the one who always brought in cakes for the team – Simon was a great guy, not just professionally but personally as well. We were all gutted when he became ill with covid a few years back but glad he made a recovery of sorts and come back on air at Gaydio.

“You just have to look at the outpouring of comments from our team past and present to see friendly, and liked he was. I’m sure he is somewhere now, sat behind a mixer with a beer in hand – not close to the equipment though.”
