Real Radio and Smooth Radio will once again host the switch on of the Blackpool Illuminations tonight, but adds a live video stream for the first time.

The entertainment will be provided by various artists and acts including Lemar, Paloma Faith, Scouting For Girls, Noisettes, Little Mix and Rick Astley. The switch-on itself will be made by Olympic medal winning members of Team GB.

Real Radio North West is broadcasting from the seafront all day, with other regional stations and national Smooth Radio joining from 7pm. The show will be hosted on both networks by Smooth Radio’s Mark Goodier.

Michael McIntyre, Real Radio and Smooth Radio North West Managing Director told RadioToday.co.uk: “It has been a mammoth task pulling together this year’s incredible line-up and we are very proud to have some amazing Olympians for the Switch-On and a live show overflowing with great artists. And on top of that, the whole country can now enjoy Switch-On as we announce for the first time ever live video steaming of the event. In its centenary year these Olympians, this line-up and live stream will make this a Switch-On that will go down as a landmark in the Blackpool Illuminations history.”

Why is a national station like Smooth wasting time on the switch on of some lights in a derelict northern town?

Think you need to look up derelict in the dictionary, love. I think you’ll find Blackpool is far from that.

I don’t need to look it up. I’ve been to the place and Blackpool is the very definition of the word.
