Richard Bacon is returning to BBC national radio with a week of covering Drivetime on BBC Radio 2 next week.
It’s 8 months since he left his daily show on BBC Radio 5 live after 7 years with the station. The former Capital, XFM and BBC Radio Nottingham presenter has been on Radio 2 before – he teamed up with Zoe Ball to host a special late night show during the 2012 London Olympics.
After leaving 5 live in September, he moved with his family to LA where he has been working on a number of TV projects. He also co-hosted the BBC One show, The Big Painting Challenge, and presented an edition of Panorama last month.
Richard will be on 5-7pm from Bank Holiday Monday 25th May, as part of a week of schedule changes at Radio 2 during the school holidays. BBC London breakfast presenter Penny Smith covers for Vanessa Feltz all week on the early show, while Vanessa is sitting in for Jeremy Vine at lunchtime. Zoe Ball looks after Ken Bruce’s mid-morning slot during the holidays, while Chris Evans and Steve Wright are off Monday and Tuesday. Sara Cox covers two days of breakfast, while 2-5 is covered on Monday by Tony Blackburn and Tuesday by Mark Goodier.
Meanwhile, Helen Fospero is covering for Penny Smith on BBC London breakfast alongside Paul Ross, while Vanessa Feltz’s BBC London show is covered by Nikki Bedi for the week.
Next Friday sees Chris Evans host a special breakfast show with Alex Jones live from St James’s Palace as the Duchess of Cornwall helps announce the winners of the station’s 500 Words short story competition.
