Rick and Keith come to Rock
Two rock keyboard giants Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson have recorded a rare interview together for Planet Rock. Planet Rock presenter and former Yes keyboardist Rick interviewed Keith of Emerson, Lake and Palmer at the station, and will air the interview this weekend.
Smooth appoints national MD
GMG Radio's north west managing director Andy Carter has been appointed as MD of Smooth Radio UK. The north west based service will officially launch on October 4th, and will see Andy take on the role in addition to his current duties.
talkSPORT boosts UTV turnover
The owner of talkSPORT, UTV Media, has reported group revenue up by nine per cent in the first six months of 2010 to £59.2m. Its GB radio division had extra revenue strengthened by the World Cup, and the inclusion of Sport magazine which was acquired in May 2009.
DAB offers Pop Up Radio series
A series of temporary radio stations commence broadcasting on September 1st as Pop Up Radio launches on digital multiplexes around the country. The upcoming Festival Spirit Radio will round-up what's been happening at festivals during the summer.
Five Hearts become 1 in Devon
Devon is latest and penultimate area to see the closure and merger of local radio stations owned by Global Radio. Stations formerly known as Lantern, South Hams, Gemini and Plymouth Sound are now operating as one Heart from Exeter, with all programmes except breakfast and drive originating from London.
Mercia video goes worldwide
Coventry station Mercia has produced a video which has gone viral worldwide – after receiving coverage on ITV, GMTV, the BBC and national newspapers. The video shows a cat getting revenge after a story in their TSA hit the headlines earlier this week about a woman putting a cat in a wheelie bin.
Rick continues to roll on Magic
Following a summer of Sunday programmes, pop singer Rick Astley has signed a new contract with Magic 105.4. The new deal will keep him at the London station till the end of the year, and he'll continue to broadcast his two hour show each Sunday at 2pm.
PURE offers sub-£40 DAB radio
A new DAB radio set has been launched by PURE for under £40. The bedside digital radio device is a slimmed down version of the Siesta, and has gained the name Siesta Mi, pronounced "me", and comes complete with two alarms.
Gaydio does Manchester Pride
Manchester's gay, lesbian, bisexual and trans station Gaydio is pulling out all the stops to cover this weekend's Manchester Pride Festival. The station has been covering the annual event since its trial broadcasts began in 2006, and this year will be the first time since being award a permanent licence.
McFly's coffee damages studio
Real Radio Scotland claim Danny Jones of McFly has caused £10K of damage to a studio. The band were visiting to promote their new single 'Party Girl' when a drink was knocked over into a mixing desk. Mid-morning presenter Paul Harper allowed Danny to have a drink during the recording, despite a no-liquid in studios [...]
