Former Capital and Heart presenter Pat Sharp is to stay on as weekend breakfast presenter at Smooth Radio after covering the show for the last couple of months.
Patman is the latest big name to sign for the station – which became a national network in October – and replaces Tony Blackburn who previously did the weekend early slot.
Pat joins new signing Simon Bates, who started on weekday breakfast last week, at Smooth. The latest addition David Jensen will start on weekday afternoons in the Spring.
Pat covered breakfast over the Christmas holiday period and will host the weekend show from GMG Radio's studios in London. He told us: "I'm delighted to be back on national radio playing the music that I love. I've enjoyed a taste of the job over the last few weeks and I'm delighted I will be taking up permanent residence on Smooth Radio's weekend breakfast show."
As well as 17 years as a mid-morning jock in London – first on Capital, then on Heart – Pat has worked at Radio 1 and hosted several popular children's television programmes for ITV, including FunHouse and What's Up Doc?
GMG Radio's Group Programme Director John Simons said: "Pat's relaxed broadcasting style is a perfect fit for Smooth at the weekends and he’s a great addition to our line-up of some of Britain's most loved radio personalities."
Smooth Radio Brand Managing Director Andy Carter added: "2011 will be an exciting year for Smooth Radio. The station is sounding great, we've had fantastic feedback from listeners and advertisers and the addition of three of Britain's most recognisable voices – Simon, Pat and David – to our line-up, is fantastic."
