Milton Keynes’ new radio station MKFM launches next week along with a new logo and a new frequency.
Ofcom has given the community station 106.3 FM and the station plans to launch on Monday 7th September. Test transmissions commenced over the Bank Holiday weekend.
MKFM will feature MK Dons match coverage, a new Breakfast Show with Oliver, Darren & Lia and local news, sport, travel and weather, along with support for local events, charities and businesses.
Programme Director Chris Gregg said: “We’ve waited four years for this and can’t wait to launch on FM. We’re very grateful to the hundreds of listeners and local organisations who gave messages of support and helped our licence application to succeed.”
Revealing MKFM’s new look at Stadium MK, MK Dons Chairman Pete Winkelman said: “We’ve been great supporters of MKFM since we lost our dedicated radio station in Milton Keynes. They’ve worked hard to get on FM and supported our community on a number of different levels. We look forward to the station growing with us.”
MKFM was started by former Horizon Radio programme controller Chris Gregg in July 2011, and after five FM trial broadcasts, the station launched on DAB Digital Radio in May 2013.
Managing Director Darren Dorrington said: “We’re delighted to be bringing local radio back to Milton Keynes and serving our fast growing city. Our shows will start on FM on 7th September and we’ll be celebrating with a launch party on the last Saturday in September at MK Social and Wonderworld. We have some exciting plans for the future which we will be announcing soon.”
