The shortlist for the Audio and Radio Industry Awards 2021 has been announced ahead of the ceremony next month.
The awards organisers, The Radio Academy, has also revealed that KISS presenters Jordan Banjo and Perri will host the event in London on Wednesday 26th May.
There are 25 awards to be won in categories such as Best New Presenter, Best Music Breakfast Show, Best Fictional Storytelling and Best Sports Show – and this year will see the introduction of several new categories: The Creative Innovation Award, The Impact Award and The 2020 Special Award, recognising content produced to support audiences in lockdown.
The BBC has seen a strong level of nominations across the board, ranging from The YUNGBLUD Podcast being nominated for Best New Show to BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 5 Live all being nominated for National Station or Network Of The Year.
Elsewhere, Bauer have been nominated across several categories including nine nominations for Absolute Radio, as well as ARIAS hosts Jordan and Perri whose KISS Breakfast show has been nominated for Best New Show.
Independent stations such as NTS and National Prison Radio have also been recognised, as well as podcasts including George the Poet – Have You Heard George’s Podcast?, The High Performance Podcast and The Bellingcat Podcast.
The ARIAS event will once again be streamed live this year but via the official channel allowing more people to take part.
Nominees are able to take part in the event live, and all winners are able to give their acceptance speeches from their own homes.
Once again this year there are no nominations for programmes or presenters working on Heart, Capital, LBC, Capital XTRA, Classic FM, Smooth, Radio X or Gold due to Global’s continuing boycott of the event.
