Former BBC Radio Manchester manager Steve Taylor has died

Steve Taylor, who was a Bury FC fan and reported on their games for BBC Radio Manchester, has passed away.

In a tweet, the station said: “Some sad news, Steve Taylor who reported on Bury FC for BBC Radio Manchester has died.

“Steve was a network news correspondent for the BBC and became the manager of the then BBC GMR.

“He commentated on the Shakers for years and remained a fan.”

Steve began working for the BBC in 1974, then went freelance in 2004 and in 2010 he became joint owner of a PR company.

On hearing the news of Steve’s death, Bury Football Club tweeted: “We are saddened to hear of Steve Taylor’s passing. Steve was a regular face at #GiggLane as a #BuryFC reporter for @BBCRadioManc.

“His years of service helped keep the #Shakers a part of the Manchester sporting community and he will never be forgotten.”

A BBC spokesperson told RadioToday: “Our hearts go out to Steve Taylor’s family at this sad time. He was a much loved colleague at the BBC and had a long career in journalism, having worked at BBC Radio Lancashire and BBC Radio Manchester.  He will be missed.”
