King’s Honours for radio folk this year include Ken Bruce and Eric Smith

Ken Bruce has been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours as he is appointed to the rank of MBE for his services to radio, autism awareness and to charity.

Former footballer and now broadcaster Ian Wright, most recently on 5 Live, gets an OBE for services to Association Football and to Charity.

BBC Radio 4’s Sally Magnusson is recognised with an MBE for services to People with Dementia and their Carers.

Ritu Khurana from Resonance gets an MBE for services to Music and to Broadcasting.

Dr Neslyn Watson-Druée, who established community radio service Colourful Radio was recognised with a CBE.

Davina McCall, who has been hosting programmes on BBC Radio 2 recently, gets an MBE for services to Broadcasting.

BBC Radio Shropshire’s Eric Smith has also been honoured with a BEM for services to Radio and to the community in Shropshire.

Eric was breakfast host on Radio Shropshire for over 26 years, from Spring 1994 up to his retirement in December 2020.
