Johnstone leaves Clyde for Real
Former Scottish international footballer turned pundit Derek Johnstone has made a January transfer window move from Bauer to GMG. He'll swap Clyde 1's Superscoreboard for Scotland's Real Radio Football Phone In – after 25 years with the Glasgow Big City station.
Garrison Colchester extended
Garrison Radio's community radio licence for Colchester has been extended for another five years. The FM station went on air originally in May 2006 to complement its medium wave transmission to Wattisham, and nearby Bassingbourn and Woodbridge.
Hundreds audition for Beacon
More than 200 people have auditioned for a job as breakfast show co-presenter at Beacon in Wolverhampton – including X Factor star Wagner. Auditions took place yesterday (Sunday) after the station had launched a competition to find someone to join Nigel Freshman while his regular co-host Jo Jesmond is on maternity leave.
Electric Proms scrapped by BBC
BBC Radio is scrapping the Electric Proms after five years as part of budget cuts. Radio 2 controller Bob Shennan says the station can achieve the same impact in a different and more cost-effective way.
Phillips or Bradbury for 5Live?
TV presenters Fiona Phillips and Julia Bradbury are reported to be the frontrunners to take over from Shelagh Fogarty on BBC Radio 5 Live breakfast. Kids to write for Radio 2
Radio 2 has launched a short story writing competition to inspire children under 13 to put pen to paper as part of the Hay-on-Wye Literature Festival. The panel of judges will be headed by breakfast presenter Chris Evans, who'll take his show to the Hay Festival later in the year.
Porn Again at Radio 5 Live
Former Home Secretary Jacqui Smith is to investigate the pornography industry in the UK, for a special 5 Live documentary. The show, called Porn Again, will speak to film-makers and actors, philosophers and feminists, politicians and commentators on March 3rd.
Extraordinary award for UKRD
UKRD Group has been accredited by the Best Companies organisation with a three star Extraordinary status for the second time. The private radio operator has recently extended its portfolio to 16 stations after acquiring 107 The Bee.
Elton swears on BBC again
Elton John's done it again – said the F-word while appearing on a live BBC network breakfast show. It happened just before 9 o'clock this morning, while he was guesting on Radio 2's Chris Evans show as co-host for the day.
Choice offers gig with Ne-Yo
London urban station Choice FM is looking for the UK's next big thing and giving them a chance to support Ne-Yo at the O2 Arena. Aspiring performers have until next week to upload their audition videos to the station website before entries are whittled down to a shortlist of five by a Choice judging panel.
