GMG’s Smooth Radio and Real Radio are celebrating their total donation of £750k to Help for Heroes.
The money has been raised by auctions and events on three Help for Heroes Days held by the stations, which goes directly to wounded soldiers.
This year, over £200k was raised as stars including Sir Ranulph Feinnes, Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson and wife Francie, Opera star Katherine Jenkins, X-Factor winner Matt Cardle and cricketer Andrew Flintoff joined serving and ex-service men and women and their families on-air on 14th October.
“Once again our listeners showed amazing support for Help for Heroes and three quarters of a million pounds we’ve raised has made a real difference to the lives of injured soldiers who have served their country,” said John Simons, GMG Radio’s Group Programme Director.
“As well as text donations from listeners we had some amazing auction items such as a helmet from The Stig signed by the Top Gear team, trips to watch the X-Factor tickets and American Idol and sports memorabilia from the likes of Fernando Torres and Wayne Rooney. Bids on many items continued after the day but we’re now delighted with the total amount raised this year and overall.”
Last month GMG Radio was recognised for its outstanding contributions and support for Help for Heroes with a Heroes Award from the charity.
