MuxCo’s first DAB Digital Radio multiplex will launch in November, covering Liverpool, Cheshire and North Wales.
Stations going digital for the first time include South Wales regional Nation Radio, Dee 106.3 and Juice FM.
BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Cymru and Real Radio will also be on the new multiplex, adding to their digital output in the south of the country.
Using transmitters at Moel-y-Parc, Wrexham Rhos and St.John’s Beacon, the multiplex will serve around 1.8m adults (15+) with space available for new radio stations to broadcast across the area.
Real Radio North West, which already covers Merseyside, Lancashire and Cheshire, is also already available on DAB Digital Radio via the MXR North West multiplex.
Gregory Watson, Managing Director at MuxCo, said “We’re excited that some of the area’s favourite stations and some new radio choices are going to be available for listeners across Liverpool, Cheshire and North Wales. Half the country listens to stations on digital radio each week, we’re pleased that listeners can now tune in to stations on digital radio locally from November.”
MuxCo North East Wales and West Cheshire Ltd was awarded the local DAB multiplex licence to serve North East Wales and West Cheshire by Ofcom in 2008.
